Investment supports SLPC’s long-term vision to modernize infrastructure, enhance visitor experiences, and protect natural assets across Eastern Ontario.
MORRISBURG, ON – On Friday, July 4, 2025, the Honourable Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, announced a historic $82.2 million investment from the Government of Ontario to modernize water and wastewater infrastructure across the Parks of the St. Lawrence and other key St. Lawrence Parks Commission (SLPC) sites. The announcement took place at Mille Roches Beach and Day Use Area, one of the sites set to benefit directly from this transformative project.
This investment represents one of the largest infrastructure undertakings in SLPC’s history. It will help secure the foundation of SLPC’s operations by replacing outdated systems with modern infrastructure that meets today’s environmental and operational standards, while supporting future growth and sustainability.
The Honourable Bob Runciman, C.M., O. Ont., Chair of the SLPC Board of Commissioners, said, “I’m looking forward to seeing Mille Roches modernized the same way we revitalized Brown’s Bay, a place where families can enjoy cleaner, more accessible, and better-equipped facilities. This investment gives us the tools to upgrade critical infrastructure and improve the overall guest experience across our parks. I’m proud of the progress we’re making and the partnerships helping us get there.”
SLPC, in collaboration with Infrastructure Ontario, Colliers Project Leaders, and its municipal partners in South Dundas and South Stormont, will begin this multi-year project by decommissioning 30 septic systems, 2 sewage lagoons, and 27 drinking water systems. These will be replaced by new municipal water and sewer connections in Long Sault, Ingleside, and the Morrisburg area. In addition to infrastructure upgrades at five popular campgrounds, Mille Roches, McLaren, Woodlands, Riverside-Cedar and Crysler Marina. The project includes improvements at The Family Lodge, Upper Canada Village, Upper Canada Golf Course and Crysler Park Marina. New facilities, including a modern washroom and canteen at Mille Roches Beach and a new washroom on Snetsinger Island, will also be constructed.
“Our strategic plan made it clear, investing in our infrastructure is investing in our future,” said Hollee Kew, General Manager and CEO of the St. Lawrence Parks Commission. “We’ve already completed essential upgrades at Brown’s Bay Beach, addressed major electrical needs at our Morrisburg campus, and are preparing to open a new Eco Comfort Hub at Glengarry Campground. This next step is about securing our foundation and ensuring the long-term vitality of our parks.”
This $82.2 million investment is part of more than $120 million in total infrastructure improvements delivered since the launch of SLPC’s 2021–2026 Strategic Plan. Construction is expected to begin as early as fall 2025, with initial work focused on municipal water and sewer connections and the development of new facilities at Mille Roches. The full project is scheduled to be completed over a four-year period.
Together with our partners, SLPC is proud to lead a new era of sustainable, guest-focused tourism infrastructure that will serve generations to come.
